So what will we do at Idiot School? When we stay exclusively in the grown up world of thoughts, plans and responsibilities - we cut ourselves off from our bodies, play, and laughter. The workshop will use games as a starting point to take us into a world of ridiculous playfulness and encourage a sense of lightness mischief and tomfoolery! Using games to build an awareness of ourselves in our immediate environment – we’ll look at how we can release our creative impulses. We’ll explore why we need rules in order to play and then we’ll find ways to bend and break those rules to release the fool and the idiot. Eventually, we will throw away the rulebook but we’ll keep the wisdom and see where it takes us!

The fool is curious, optimistic and naïve - wandering through the world with an outlook so simple that everything becomes a game. This will be the starting point for us to discover our own wonderful inner stupidity. In this space we can forget the restrictions and judgments of the outside world and create our own playful world where anything is possible - a space where our imagination is the only thing we need to follow. The workshop will build a supportive atmosphere where we feel able to create, discover and play.

Rather than entering a world that already exists, the fool creates a world in an empty space and invites the audience to share that world. The workshop will explore practically how we can create ‘a world in an empty space’. We will discover how to fill the space (our play space) with a sense of openness, naivety, mischief and positive energy. The focus of the course is on exploring the ‘process’ of play and discovery in a workshop setting and as such you do not need any performance experience to take part in and fully enjoy this course. So take a deep breath and jump into a world of play, imagination, fun and laughter!
