Volunteer English Conversation Group Facilitators
Sneinton Volunteer Project, based at TRACS Neighbourhood Centre, 60 Sneinton Hollows helps people who are interested in voluntary work to find suitable placements. This is a free service available to all Nottingham residents. TRACS Neighbourhood Centre is a registered charity (Charity no. 1104798).
We are currently helping a local organisation to recruit English conversation group facilitators.
The English Conversation Group brings together people from a vast range of different countries to practice their spoken English skills in a relaxed, informal and sociable environment. It differs from conventional ESOL provision in that the focus is on encouraging participants to express themselves, increase their confidence, meet people and have fun. Participants come from diverse backgrounds, many of them being refugees or asylum seekers. The group is very important to participants as it represents an opportunity to interact with others and feel a sense of belonging in the community. Through the sessions, the volunteer will have the opportunity to discover a great deal about other cultures and understand the values and beliefs of others.
The role involves planning and delivering the weekly sessions. Full training and ongoing support will be provided..
Very good spoken English. Good communication skills. Ability to lead a group. Diplomacy skills. Empathy and sensitivity towards people who may have experienced/be experiencing hardship.
